First Lady's Digital Currency Architects Hit with Pump-and-Dump Fraud Lawsuit

The designers behind a virtual coin launched by US First Lady Melania Trump have been alleged in court filings of planning a pump-and-dump scheme.

Coin Release and Price Surge

The $MELANIA coins were issued for just a few cents each on the 19th of January, just prior to Donald Trump took office.

In addition to the Melania cryptocurrency, Trump himself released his $TRUMP coin a few hours before the presidential inauguration.

Within hours, the price of the $MELANIA cryptocurrency soared to nearly $14 per coin.

Sudden Collapse in Value

Yet, the market price plummeted almost as quickly, and is now less than 15 cents – below a fraction of its peak price.

In parallel, the $TRUMP cryptocurrency hit a high of nearly forty-six dollars and currently exchanges for approximately five seventy-nine.

Legal Allegations and Plaintiffs' Position

The investors assert that the coin's creators executed the maneuver knowing that the cryptocurrency's price would plummet.

Melania Trump personally is not named in the lawsuit. Investors stated they do not consider she was culpable, but charged the digital currency firms of exploiting her and other familiar faces as window dressing for their fraudulent schemes.

Trading Venue Involvement

In newly filed legal documents, plaintiffs charge executives of the Meteora digital asset exchange, where $MELANIA was first exchanged, of establishing a scheme that enabled them to secretly buy large quantities of the cryptocurrency.

Their partners then quickly resold these virtual tokens, earning significant gains while triggering the price to plummet, according to records entered in New York federal court.

Broader Context

The charges concerning $MELANIA have been included in judicial actions involving several other cryptocurrencies, which began in spring.

Trump-associated entities has according to reports secured over a billion dollars in pre-tax gains from several digital currency-linked enterprises and organizations over the last year.
