Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered numerous engaging independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a hero that is truly a dung attempting to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. In numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and visit a market to acquire skins for your poop character.

Plan your actions precisely, since one error means starting over. Leap on floating orbs to hurl the poop higher, cross fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal new areas. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on tougher stages where the action gets crazy.

Visually, the game shows off vibrant environments and a killer music score. The retro art with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of previous releases where you control a dung character, gaming often included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on PC on November 19.
