China's Figure Skaters Face Investigation Following Holding Toy Missile at Competition

The International Skating Union have launched an investigation after two Chinese figure skaters were seen with what looked like a toy ballistic missile at an international skating competition.

Television footage captured the skaters sitting alongside a large toy in the form of a missile labeled “DF-61” as they awaited their scores at the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.

This model is a new Chinese-made ground-launched long-range weapon capable of carrying nuclear weapons, which was unveiled during a national ceremony recently.

Officials is aware that an inappropriate soft toy appears to have been among those tossed onto the rink by audience members after a routine during the competition,” the organization commented via a release.

The item was subsequently held by the athletes after their performance. The ISU regrets the incident and will look into it more deeply.”

The duo placed in eighth place of 10 pairs during the ice dancing competition, which was won by Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States.
